No Boundaries
Contemporary Aboriginal Australian Painting
June–August 2015, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art
No Boundaries presents the work of nine trailblazing artists who were inspired by their ancient cultural traditions to forge one of the most dynamic painting movements of recent times. The exhibition is comprised of more than 75 paintings produced between 1992 and 2012. Although rarely seen in the US, these artists stand at the vanguard of global contemporary art practice. The works are drawn from the collection of Debra and Dennis Scholl.
For the installation, PICA’s Visual Art team transformed a raw warehouse space into a finished gallery, creating a unique architectural backdrop for the work, exhibited both vertically and horizontally as it was intended by the artists. Curated by Kristan Kennedy. Exhibition design and project management by Spencer Byrne-Seres and Kristan Kennedy. Images by Evan LaLonde.
