Abigail DeVille - The Observatory

Brand New Heavies at Pioneer Works, April 2 to June 20, 2021

Abigail DeVille’s The Observatory is a recreation of the US Capitol Dome, reduced to a skeletal steel frame, with video portals that depict sites from US History, including the Historic Stagville Plantation, Sullivan Island, and the Combahee River. We supported DeVille in the development and design of the dome and pyramid structure, working with the artist to translate her concepts into build plans that were implemented by installation crews and fabricators.
