Time Based Art Festival

Corner Store

Corner Store was created in 2019 as the central feature of TBA’s FOOD Program, hosted by Portland Institute for Contemporary Art. We created a pop-up store to supply food, drinks, and other items to TBA’s audiences as they attended shows, seeking to radically redefine what was possible within the container of an art festival.

Within TBA's Corner Store there are many nesting projects. Artists created items for sale and vendors prepared hot and cold food for people to eat. A wide array of snacks, from health bars to salty chips were available. The temporary community that pops up around the festival responded, whether purchasing groceries to take home with them after a show, or hanging out on our bench to chat. We also produced a catalog featuring interviews and writing by artists and vendors connected to the store.

Conceived and designed by Spencer Byrne-Seres (Visitor Projects), in collaboration with Madenna Ibrahim for TBA:19 at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art. Featured artists included Salimatu Amabebe, Jodie Cavalier, and Roz Crews. Thanks to all the volunteers who staffed and supported the store.
